2nd Grade Winter Indoor Training

This Winter, the SPFSA Travel Program will be hosting indoor training for all 2nd grade boys and 2nd grade girls. This training will be focusing on skills and small-sided play in order to prepare 2nd grade players for the upcoming Spring Season. If you're interested in trying out for a 3rd grade Travel team, this training is for you!

This training will take place on Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm at the Westfield Armory for the following 7 weeks: 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, & 2/22. The cost for the entire 7 weeks is $100.

Registration now open for House and Inter County Spring 2012 programs

Registration for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Soccer Association’s Spring 2012 Season is now open.

Pre-k through 4th grades and Inter-County programs will be registering for the Spring 2012 season only. The programs are open to Scotch Plains and Fanwood residents. Payment can only be made by credit or debit card on-line.

The SPFSA House program offers recreational soccer for boys and girls aged four through fourth grade. Children wishing to participate in the Pre-k program must turn 4 prior to April 1, 2012. Coaches are urgently needed in this division.

The House program season will open on April 21 and end on June 23. The fee is $70 for the spring only season. Registration will close on March 15, 2012.

A wait-list registration period will be held from March 20-April 15. There is no guarantee your child will be placed on a team during this wait list period so do not delay. Team assignments will be on a first-come-first-served basis and based on roster size.

The Spring 2012 House season will run from Saturday, April 21 through June 23. The House program will not play over Memorial Day weekend.

The Inter-County program provides teams for older players (fifth grade and up). Additional details are available on the SPFSA website.\

House Winter Program Updates

The 2012 Winter indoor season will be held at Park Middle School and the games will be held in separate gyms. The season begins on 1/21/2012 and ends 3/17/2012. Pre-K and Kindergarten will play in the small gym (4 versus 4) between the hours of 9 am and 11 am. First, second and third grades will play (3 versus 3) in the large gym between the hours of 8 am and 12 noon (game ends at 1pm). Each player needs to wear sneakers and shin pads, and should bring something to drink. Each coach should bring an extra pair of shin pads and an old beach towel to dry the floors in the event it rains or snows. Each coach is also responsible to bring a first aid kit. Kids wil have fun runnning around and playing with friends. Coaches will be reaching out to their teams shortly with game schedules.

TO SUPPLEMENT LOSS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER

SPFSA Middle School Soccer Challenge Open to All 7^th & 8^th Grade Level Residents

September 5, 2011 -- The Scotch Plains Fanwood Soccer Association (SPFSA) announced today it will continue the popular SPFSA Middle School Soccer Challenge – a 10-week program created to replace the playing and training time lost to 7th and 8th grade student athletes after the cancellation of the Terrill Middle School and Park Middle School soccer programs due to budget cuts. In its inaugural year, more than 100 middle school students took part in the program.

The SPFSA Middle School Soccer Challenge is open to all 7th and 8th Grade students (public, private and parochial school students) residing in the Scotch Plains Fanwood School District. Directed by long-time local soccer coach Mike Walch, the multifaceted program will feature:

Masters Mondays Skills Training -- A weekly training program where a former SPFHS State Champion or All State/County Player will be the “Guest Master” and teach a specific soccer topic. In addition, each session will include soccer skill dril ls and speed/agility/quickness/core training led by staff trainers including SPFHS coaches and former HS players. Start time is approximately 7pm for both girls and boys.

Friday Night Lights Games – Preserving the in-town rivalry between the Park and Terrill Middle School soccer teams, the 7^th and 8^thgraders will be split into Park and Terrill teams (based upon their geographic location) for weekly games.& nbsp; There will be boys and girls teams. This year we will seek to play other towns also. First game starts at approximately 7pm.

Online registration for the SPFSA Middle School Challenge is now open at www.scotchplainsfanwoodsoccer.com. The program, expected to begin on Monday, September 19, is open to all 7^th and 8^th grade level children residing in Scotch Plains and Fanwood. Participation does not require current participation in SPFSA InterCounty or Travel soccer programs. The fee for the program is $75.00 for children currently enrolled in SPFSA programs and $100.00 for non-SPFSA players.
