Prior to the November 2, 1999 election, a brochure was distributed to all Scotch Plains homeowners explaining the Open Space Referendum. It suggested the following projects could be possible:
Upgrade All Existing Park Facilities
Expand Brookside Park
- expand ballfield and roller hockey rink
- add lighting, jogging trail/walking path, parking and soccer field
New Terry-Lou Community Center
- includes gyms, meeting rooms, senior services and administrative offices
New Southside Park
- improve ballfield
- add modular playground, soccer fields and storage/restrooms
Develop 22 Acres of Ashbrook Reservation *
- includes lighted soccer fields, baseball fields and softball fields
- concessions/storage/restrooms, jogging trail/walking path and modular playground
*Vetoed by County Board of Freeholders in 2001 due to environmental concerns.
